The Supreme Court of the Philippines ruled on a petition concerning the correction of entries in the birth certificates of Oliver and Roselyn Boquiren, who were born out of wedlock. The Court found that the Regional Trial Court (RTC) lacked jurisdiction to determine the legitimacy and filiation of the children in a Rule 108 proceeding, as such matters must be addressed in a direct action. Consequently, the Court reversed the decisions of the lower courts that had allowed the correction of the birth records
