What is Challenges of the Annual National Assessments about?

The Annual National Assessments (ANA) were tests given to Grades 1-6 and Grade 9 students in South Africa to assess literacy and numeracy skills. The goals were to track student progress, benchmark schools, and assist teachers. However, teachers felt there was too much focus on preparing for ANA, leaving little time for teaching. As a result, ANA is being phased out and replaced by the National Integrated Assessment Framework to address these challenges.
