The Constituent Assembly took 2 years, 11 months and 17 days to draft the Constitution of India through 11 sessions held between December 1946 to November 1949. The Drafting Committee, chaired by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, was formed on August 29, 1947 to create the draft Constitution. After considering 7,635 total amendments, the Assembly adopted the Constitution on November 26, 1949, which came into effect on January 26, 1950.
