The Boston Diamond was transposed from an original idea that my writing partner, Nick Yapp, and I had in the early 1990s. Nick and I were developing ideas for sitcoms and screenplays and the original premise was using England and France as the backdrop for a rivalry and wager around the game of Cricket. In the late 1990s, I altered Some Far-Off Foreign Field from Northern France to Boston and cricket became baseball. I also upped the ante on the wager and the game of baseball to a wider audience.
