The document describes an experimental study on all-optical optical decision based on cross-gain modulation in a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) to achieve 40Gb/s regeneration. Numerical simulation and experiments were conducted to study the influence of optical clock pulse properties, including extinction ratio and power, on the shape of the regenerated pulse. There exists optimal values of clock pulse power and extinction ratio that produce the best output pulse pattern with lower noise and jitter.
