The Babylonian Empire was built by King Nebukhadnetzar and lasted for years after his death. He besieged Jerusalem and deported the inhabitants of Judah to Babylon in three waves. With the last deportation, he destroyed Jerusalem and sent nearly the entire population into exile. The Babylonian Empire was later succeeded by the Medo-Persian Empire.
