What is Understanding the Shahada in Islam about?

The Shahada is the Muslim profession of faith and first pillar of Islam. It contains two parts: (1) Nothing deserves worship except God (Allah), and (2) Muhammad is the messenger of God. Reciting the Shahada with conviction makes one a Muslim. It affirms God as the one true deity and recognizes Muhammad as the final prophet continuing the monotheistic messages of previous prophets like Abraham, Moses, and Jesus.
