What is Editorial about?
This issue of Fusion Engineering and Design contains the invited and oral lectures presented at the 20th Symposium on Fusion Technology (SOFT 20) held in Marseilles on 7 -11 September, 1998. The SOFT Organizing Committees had agreed with the editors and the publisher of this journal to publish these papers, after a standard revision process, in a special issue. This extends a tradition which started with SOFT-15 and we are sure that it will be much appreciated by the readers, because these papers, written by outstanding leaders and experts, summarize the present status in specific areas of fusion devices and technology.
