Can I read Hydraulic Chipbreaking on EtoBox?

Hydraulic Chipbreaking by F.O. Rasch; T. Vigeland; Ø. Bjørke is a Engineering article available to read on EtoBox.

What is Hydraulic Chipbreaking about?

In i'inish turning operations there are certain cutting conditions and workpiece materials which do not give acceptable chipbreaking from the point of view of reliability of automatic machining processes. These conditions may very well be unavoidable because the cutting data must be chosen within certain limits, and even the use of different chip control devices, for instance a sintered in groove, will not solve the problem. This paper describes a method by which long unbroken chips are broken up in smaller comma and spiral chips by applying a high pressure liquid to the back of the chip through an apdropriately designed nozzle, Different workpiece materials, liquid pressures, nozzle designs, nozzle directions and cutting data have been tested, and the results show that even with well known difficult to break materials short and easy to handle chips can be achieved. The necessary nozzles and tubing can relatively easily be built into existing tooling, and the method can be put into production without lengthy acBptation of experimental set up to real turning processes.
