What is Cyclic Severe Plastic Deformation Processes about?
This chapter describes the main cyclic severe plastic deformation (SPD) processes as an extremely efficient method to produce ultrafine-grained (UFG) and nanostructure (NS) materials. Mechanical and physical properties and microstructure evaluation of processed material are investigated and compared together. Cyclic severe plastic deformation processes comprise some crucial advantages in comparison to other SPD methods including less processing time for consecutive passes and better properties for processed materials. It is revealed that the proper properties achieved in these methods are caused by free surface reduction, which leads to higher hydrostatic pressure compared to other conventional SPD methods.
