What is 1,3-Dimethylbenzene and Amides Overview about?

1,3-dimethylbenzene is a useful starting material that can be used to synthesize musk ketone A and the polymer Nomex. Musk ketone A is made through a three step process involving electrophilic aromatic substitution followed by nitration. Nomex is a polyamide polymer made through acid-catalyzed condensation of 1,3-dimethylbenzene with 1,3-dinitrobenzene. Replacing some of the diamine monomer with 1,3,5-triaminobenzene would introduce branching and alter the properties of Nomex.
