This essay explores the state of postcolonial analysis in studies of the Minor Prophets. In understanding what postcolonialism is, what it is becoming, and how it has faltered in studies of the Minor Prophets, scholars may be better able to find ways of incorporating its insights into their own work while preserving its critique of inequalities inherent within the institutions that continue to support the scholars themselves. Those insights must begin with an acceptance of postcolonialism as inherently a challenge to the world that the Minor Prophets perceived and to trends in biblical interpretation. In its exploration of postcolonial analyses, this essay explains the general contours of postcolonialism, identifies elements of its shift into areas of ideological colonialism not confined to historical consciousness, and draws out points of tension between postcolonial inquiry and the Minor Prophets.
