What is Gas Warfare in Wilfred Owen about?

This poem by Wilfred Owen describes the horrors of a gas attack on soldiers during World War I. It depicts men struggling through mud with tired and injured bodies until they are alerted to a gas attack by cries of "Gas! Gas! Quick, boys!". One man is unable to get his gas mask on in time and the speaker watches him drown, an image that haunts his dreams. The poem criticizes the idea that it is sweet and honorable to die for one
