CNPC and Sinopec Group, two state-owned Chinese oil and gas companies, have subsidiaries that jointly own and operate the Tarapoa oil block in Ecuador. CNPCI and SOOGL, subsidiaries based in the Cayman Islands, each own interests in Andes Petroleum Company Limited, a company registered in the British Virgin Islands that wholly owns Andes Petroleum Ecuador Ltd, giving the Chinese companies access to the oil resources in the Tarapoa block in Ecuador.
