About this document

Understanding Stepping Motors Basics by Sherif Eltoukhi is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Stepping motors have a stator and rotor. The rotor is made of two parts that are magnetized with opposite polarity. The stator contains coils that magnetize sections called poles when current is passed through them. There are multiple phases, with each phase composed of two poles. As different phases are excited in sequence, the magnetic fields cause the rotor teeth to align with the stator poles, rotating the shaft in discrete steps.
