What is Polyarteritis Nodosa Neurologic Manifestations about?
Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN), first described by Ku ̈ssmaul and Maier, 1 is a necrotizing vasculitis mainly manifested by weight loss; fever; asthenia; peripheral neuropathy; renal, musculoskeletal, and/or gastrointestinal (GI) tract involvement; cutaneous lesions; hypertension; and/or cardiac failure. Peripheral neuropathy is often the most frequent and earliest symptom of PAN. Central nervous system (CNS) manifestations are less frequent. 2,3 In light of its potential causes, primary and secondary forms of PAN can also be distinguished. Notably, PAN can be the consequence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection (HBV-PAN). 4 This cause was frequent in the 1980s but is becoming extremely rare since the implementation of the anti-HBV vaccination and enhanced blood transfusion Disclosure statement: None.
