What is Preserving the Location Privacy of Internet of Vehicles Users about?
Preserving the Location Privacy of Internet of Vehicles Users Figure 8.1. The number of IoT connected devices (based on the statistics of Heinze (2016))Although IoV services are captivating, the fact that they may risk both their user's identity and location privacy is too perilous to be ignored. To overcome this issue, several solutions are being elaborated, mainly concentrating on using temporal identifiers for the vehicle's cyber activity to protect its identity privacy. Identifierbased solutions focus on the strategies that render the identifier update unlinkable in order to prevent the vehicle's tracking on-road.In this chapter, we propose three solutions: the first is crowd-based to thwart identifier linkability and protects against tracking when using cloud enabled-IoV location-based services (LBS) and safety applications. We analyzed its performance against a modeled global passive attacker executing semantic, syntactic, observation mapping and linkage mapping attacks. We also compared it to a state of art solution through simulation by using NS2. The results found are optimistic, the privacy was preserved with more than 70% outperforming the performance of the state-of-the
