GM Maurice Ashley recently visited South Africa to promote chess and share life lessons with students. He toured schools and did exhibitions and lessons. He also visited Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, finding the experience deeply humbling. Ashley worked with an organization called Chess for Change that uses chess to help thousands of children in South Africa develop opportunities.
