Fingerprinting has been used for thousands of years, originally in China for official documents. In the late 19th century, scientists like Faulds and Galton established that fingerprints are unique to individuals and do not change, laying the foundation for using fingerprints to identify criminals. One of the first major adoptions was by Scotland Yard in 1892. Juan Vucetich established the first fingerprint bureau in Argentina in 1891 and obtained the first conviction using fingerprint evidence in 1892.
