Heavy ANFO explosives (HANFO) are made by mixing ammonium nitrate fuel oil (ANFO) prills with emulsion blasting agents. Adding emulsion increases the bulk strength and water resistance of ANFO. For wet conditions, a minimum of 50% emulsion is recommended. Emulsion contains ammonium nitrate, fuel oil, and other ingredients.
