What is Qatar about?
1) In the late 18th century, the Al Khalifa family migrated from Kuwait to Qatar and gained control over Bahrain and the town of Zubarah in Qatar. 2) In the early 19th century, the ruler of Oman took advantage of reduced Wahhabi garrisons in the region to raid Zubarah and return control to the Al Khalifa. 3) In the late 19th century, Qatar submitted to Ottoman rule but tensions grew as the Ottomans interfered in local affairs and supported rivals to the Al Thani ruler, leading Al Thani to rebel in 1892.
