This study analyzed records of leprosy cases at Nkhotakota District Hospital in Malawi from 1992 to 2001. A total of 526 leprosy cases were identified. The prevalence of leprosy gradually increased from 1992 to 1995 and then declined from 1997 to 2001. Paucibacillary leprosy accounted for the majority of cases. More males had multibacillary leprosy while more females had paucibacillary leprosy. The results suggest paucibacillary leprosy could become endemic in Malawi if not addressed.
