The equilibrium constant Kp is derived from the equation for a reversible reaction occurring in the gas phase. While a catalyst can affect the rate of reaching equilibrium, it does not affect the value of Kp. The partial pressure p of a gas is defined as the mole fraction of that gas multiplied by the total pressure. Kp can be calculated using the partial pressures of the products and reactants at equilibrium. Like Kc, only temperature has an effect on the value of Kp.
