Bojan Hraste was born in 1945 in Helsinki, Finland. In 1941, he emigrated to the United States where he later obtained a degree in English literature from New York University. He began photography in 1971 focusing on self-portraits and received his Master of Fine Arts in photography from Rhode Island School of Design in 1974. Hraste has worked as a professor, curator, writer, director, and screenwriter. His work has been featured in museums such as Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and Tokyo
