Cerebrospinal fluid is secreted by ependymal cells covering the choroid plexus in the ventricles, fills the lateral ventricles, and escapes through the foramen of Monroe into the third ventricle and aqueduct of Silvius into the fourth ventricle. It then pours into the subarachnoid space through openings in the fourth ventricle, circulates around the spinal cord in the subarachnoid space, and ultimately enters venous circulation.
