What is W. Q. Meeker, G. J. Hahn, L. A. Escobar. Statistical Intervals-A Guide for Practitioners and Researchers. (2017) Hoboken, NJ: John Wiley & Sons., 648 pages, ISBN 978-0-471-68717-7 about?

The book addresses three types of statistical intervals: confidence, tolerance, and prediction intervals. After an introduction to the basic concepts, parametric intervals for various types of distributions and various distribution parameters are provided. The likelihood approach for constructing estimators and related intervals is presented; various parametric and nonparametric bootstrap and simulation-based approaches are provided as well as simple and more sophisticated Bayesian approaches. In addition, sample size requirements for confidence intervals are discussed in detail. All approaches are extensively illustrated by examples from various different fields of application. Formulas and some of the mathematical background are presented within an Appendix. Moreover, a large number of tables are appended to allow a ready-to-use application of the presented methods. The authors really made a great effort to address all aspects of estimators, statistical intervals, and the related mathematical theory. The book offers the reader a solid and broad introduction to the various different ways of constructing statistical estimators and related intervals. Due to the nice structure of the
