The Wright Brothers were an amazing team who created one of the most revolutionary inventions of the twentieth century -- the airplane. Sons of a minister, Orville and Wilbur Wright were bright, industrious, and inseparable. As young men, they operated a print shop, published newspapers, and fixed and built bicycles. Orville and Wilbur began to actively pursue their dream of flying in the late 1890s. They built their first glider in 1900 and took it to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, to test it. Three years later, Orville made the historic first flight on December 17. Their invention brought them much international attention. In 1909, they established the Wright American Company to build and sell their airplanes. Today, the Wright brothers are considered pioneers in the field of aviation.
