The 450 Resuscitation Officers (ROs) currently employed in the UK provide training and education of medical, nursing and paramedical staff in the management of cardiac arrest. The Council for Professionals as Resuscitation Officers (CPRO) is a new professional organisation set up by the Resuscitation Officers, with a key objective of developing training and education and research in both the prevention and management of cardiac arrest for the United Kingdom. For the past three years, ROs across the UK and Ireland have been working together to form this organisation and to develop new ways of reducing deaths from cardiac arrest through collaborative approach to training and education. This group \*/which is unique to the UK \*/has already begun working with both the Resuscitation Council (UK) and European Resuscitation Council.
