About this Engineering article
Magnetic and mechanical properties of FeNiCoTi magnetic shape memory alloy by R. Hayashi; S.J. Murray; M. Marioni; S.M. Allen; R.C. O'Handley is a Engineering article available to read on EtoBox.
## Ž . FeNiCoTi is a promising candidate to show the magnetic shape memory MSM effect in an alloy with a high saturation magnetization and low cost. Material properties in this alloy can be controlled through both composition and heat treatment, and the effects of both have been studied. The effects of Ni Ti precipitation are explored by subjecting samples to a range aging treatments to control the size and 3 number of precipitates. Ni Ti precipitates affect martensite transitions and mechanical properties. Samples of various compositions and 3 heat treatments have been tested for microstructural, magnetic, and mechanical properties. Aging treatments have been shown to raise the martensite temperature by as much as 1008C. The phase transformation from austenite to martensite was shown to raise the saturation magnetization from 100 to 150 emurg.
