The unemployment rate in North Carolina increased slightly to 6.5% in July from 6.4% in June. Total nonfarm employment increased by 15,800 jobs over the month led by gains in professional and business services, government, trade and transportation. Since July 2013, total nonfarm employment has grown by 89,000 jobs with the largest increases in professional and business services, trade and transportation, and leisure and hospitality. The national unemployment rate was 6.2% in July.
