Rationale: Malnutrition and sarcopenia are interrelated and are frequent in hospital settings, being related to higher morbimortality. CIPA nutritional screening is performed at the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, , which is positive when one of the following conditions is met: a) decreased oral intake <72h <50%, b) albumin < 3 g/dl, and c) BMI 18 years old who underwent CIPA malnutrition screening were included. Loss of muscle mass was measured by bioimpedanciometry (appendicular skeletal muscle mass, ASMI), and strength by handgrip measure. Sarcopenia was established according to the EWGSOP2 diagnostic criteria.Results: 182 patients were analyzed. The mean age was 66.33 ±14.26 years (53.8% women). CIPA was positive in 31.3%, while 16.5% of the whole sample had sarcopenia (decreased muscle mass (ASMI): 19.2%; decreased strength: 65.9%). 33.3% of positive CIPA patients had sarcopenia vs 8.8% of negative CIPA (p<0.0005). The positivity of all CIPA variables correlated with the presence of sarcopenia: albumin (32.3% vs 13.2%; p1⁄40.009); BMI/ MUAC (75% vs 12.4%; p<0.0005); oral intake control (28.6% vs 14.3%; p1⁄40.061).
