In static experiments, the maximum 18 FDG activities for spheres of 22 mm or more were 90-105% of the injected 18 FDG activity. However, for smaller spheres, these values ranged from 20% to 80% of the injected 18 FDG activity. In static experiments, appropriate threshold values ranged from 30% to 40% of the maximum 18 FDG activity for spheres of 17 mm or more, independent of S/B ratio. Therefore, we adopted a threshold value of 35% of the maximum 18 FDG activity for moving phantom experiments. In moving phantom experiments, the maximum 18 FDG activity for spheres of 22 mm or more dropped significantly depending on moving distance. For moving spheres of 22 mm or more, PET-images depicted with a threshold value of 35% were slightly smaller (\3 mm) than actual spheres in the axial plane. In the sagittal plane, PET-images were elliptical and become larger in proportion to the moving distance of spheres, although the longest diameters were significantly smaller than those of ideal ITVs. For moving distance of 1-2 cm, PET-images in the sagittal plane were 8-12 mm shorter than the longest diameter of ideal ITVs.
