What is Understanding Verb Patterns and Gerunds about?

Verb patterns with gerunds can be summarized as follows: 1) Verbs can be followed directly by a gerund with no change in meaning, such as "liking enjoying" verbs followed by a gerund. 2) Some verbs can be followed by either a gerund or infinitive with no change in meaning, such as "start" and "stop". 3) Prepositions followed by gerunds can change the meaning of the verb, such as "stop" meaning to cease an action or cease in order to do something else.
