What is The House of Rani Kapur about?

Delhi, India, 1947. During the havoc of partition, fifteen-year-old Rani is attacked and raped before being left for dead. Rescued by wealthy Anglo-Indian aristocrat, Harish Hope, she is taken to his 'house,' a brothel like no other. Tempted by the women in their see-through saris, jewellery, and sequins, clients are drawn like moths to a flame adding to the diversity found inside. This becomes Rani's world, yet other forces are constantly at play. Watched over by the many gods all over the house, elements of mysticism and the metaphysical create a rich multi-voiced tapestry, and a text infused with humour, romance, heartbreak and irony.
