While previous implementations had been successful, this one encountered technical glitches between the legacy and SAP systems that led to a 20% order backlog. This backlog cost HP $160 million in delayed orders and lost revenue as customers went to competitors. Though the technical issues were resolved in a few weeks, the business impact snowballed due to a lack of contingency planning for workarounds.
