What is Clues in a Diary about?

I find a diary near the wheel of my car and I have no idea who it belongs to. I open it to see if there is any contact information for its owner, but there is none. People lose things all the time and I should just leave it there on the ground, but two images on the inside cover make me realize how extremely important it is.
