What is History of Caparra Settlement Ruins about?

The Ruins of Caparra contain the remains of the first permanent settlement on Puerto Rico founded in 1509 by Juan Ponce de León and called "El Ciudad de Puerto Rico". Little is known about the physical structures of this first settlement, as most were built with perishable materials, but it was built around a public square for trade and included corrals, warehouses, stables, and small houses. The Ruins of Caparra have been part of the National Register of Historical Places since 1984.
