What is Rizal about?

Rizal received sad news from home about a cholera outbreak in Manila. He established himself in Madrid to continue his studies in medicine and philosophy. There he joined the Circulo Hispano-Filipino society and began a romance with Consuelo Ortiga y Perez, though it did not blossom into a serious relationship. Rizal traveled to Paris in 1883 and observed hospitals there, finding the cost of living too high. He struggled with financial difficulties as support from his family was delayed or did not arrive.
