About this document
Medieval Liturgical Drama Overview by SohailRana is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Liturgical drama originated in the Middle Ages as plays performed in or near churches relating stories from the Bible and lives of saints. While rooted in Christian liturgy, they were not essential parts of church services. Written in Latin, the dramas featured dialogue sometimes chanted to simple melodies with incidental dance and music. The earliest traces date to the 10th century, possibly derived from the Easter mass trope "Quem Quaeritis." They gradually grew more complex during the 12th-13th centuries
