The Russian GLONASS satellite navigation system has a design constellation of 24 satellites in middle circular orbit. Like GPS, it provides positioning, navigation and timing information free of direct user charges. The GLONASS constellation suffered from low availability in the 1990s but has been restored through regular satellite launches since 2000. Civilian users can now achieve accuracy of 10-14 meters when calculating their position using two GLONASS frequencies.
