The WIN-Lupus trial investigated the effects of discontinuing maintenance immunosuppressive therapy (IST) after 2-3 years in patients with proliferative lupus nephritis (LN). Results showed that IST discontinuation was associated with a higher risk of severe lupus flares and did not demonstrate non-inferiority compared to continuing IST, as relapse rates were higher in the discontinuation group. The study suggests the need for tailored strategies to identify patients who may safely discontinue IST.
