What is Seismic Assessment of Existing Buildings about?
This paper evaluates the assumptions used in the FEMA 356 and GRECO (based on EC 8) procedures for assessing the seismic capacity of existing buildings using pushover analysis. Experimental results from a four-story building tested at the ELSA Laboratory are used to compare the two sets of assumptions. The comparisons are performed in terms of effective yield rigidities, chord rotations at yielding, elastic periods, performance points, plastic mechanisms, drift distributions and locations of plastic hinges.
