What is Phosphorylated Tau As A Candidate Biomarker For Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis about?
This study investigates the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) levels of phosphorylated tau (ptau) as a potential biomarker for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Results indicate significantly reduced CSF ptau levels and a high ptau:total tau (ttau) ratio in ALS patients compared to controls, with strong sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing ALS. The findings suggest that the CSF ptau:ttau ratio could provide objective support for ALS diagnosis and correlate with clinical measures of disease severity.
