The study evaluated the effect of multimodality chest physiotherapy on preventing ventilator-associated pneumonia and reducing mortality in mechanically ventilated patients. 90 patients received either standard care or standard care plus positioning, chest wall vibrations and manual lung hyperinflation. The addition of physiotherapy significantly decreased infection scores and cases of pneumonia but did not significantly reduce mortality.
