It's not you, it's me: Extracellular self-DNA signals through the jasmonic acid pathway by Guadalupe L Fernández-Milmanda is a Agricultural and Biological Sciences article available to read on EtoBox.

What is It's not you, it's me: Extracellular self-DNA signals through the jasmonic acid pathway about?

Plants perceive many small molecules that convey information, for example about the presence of pests or pathogens. When these molecules come from the damaged plant cells, as it is the case of fragmented extracellular self-DNA (esDNA), they are called damageassociated molecular patterns (DAMPs). DAMP perception is followed by the activation of cellular responses that ultimately lead to the expression of defense programs (Duran-Flores and Heil, 2018). For example, esDNA triggers generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), expression of defense genes, and resistance against pathogens and herbivores (Duran- Ferrusquía-Jiménez et al., 2022). However, the mechanisms by which esDNA activates plant immunity are largely unknown.
