This study introduces artificial damping factors to numerical analysis of irregular steel beam-column joints to improve stability and convergence. Damping factors between 1.0×10−5 and 5.0×10−5 were explored, and values of 0.0002 and 0.0005 provided the best matches to monotonic behavior and convergence for joints with a steel yield strength of 325 MPa.
