Middle Ages hygiene was basic, with waste disposal and garbage removal being rudimentary. However, personal hygiene was better than perceived, as people did bathe, wash, and clean their teeth. The Black Death outbreak led Medieval people to consider links between health and hygiene. Bathing was usually done in wooden barrels or simple bathrooms in castles, while hands were washed before meals.
