About this document

Jimutaka (Luffa echinata) Overview by Mahadev Vijay is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Jimutaka is a type of annual creeper that grows wild in parts of India and Nepal. It has alternate, simple, cordate leaves that are 3.8-6.3 cm long. The plant produces white, dioecious flowers on peduncles of varying lengths. The fruits are broadly ellipsoid, yellow structures covered in bristles that contain numerous, grayish-black seeds. Phytochemical analysis has found the plant contains bitter compounds like echinatin, flavonoids, saponins, fatty acids, and triterpenes.
