What is Amistad Case Overview and Analysis about?
In 1839, a group of Africans were kidnapped and taken onto the slave ship Amistad. They later escaped and killed some of the Spanish crew but were tricked into being brought to America where they were put on trial for murder. With the help of abolitionists, it was proven in the trial that they were not born slaves and the Supreme Court ruled they were free citizens who must be allowed to return home.
