About this document

Conjugation Process in Paramecium by Dasha Duzran is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Paramecium normally reproduce asexually through fission but under stress they undergo sexual reproduction through conjugation. During conjugation, two Paramecium of different mating strains fuse together and exchange haploid micronuclei through a cytoplasmic bridge. This creates new diploid micronuclei that combine genetic material from both individuals, increasing genetic diversity. The Paramecium then separate and resume asexual reproduction.
